Invisalign

Invisalign is a clear aligner manufactured by Align Technology, who are a medical device company. They are one of the best known providers of teeth straightening through invisible braces, both in the UK and beyond, with their name becoming shorthand for teeth straightening procedures.

Why Choose Invisalign?

  • Price

Pricing varies widely depending on the dentist delivering the treatment, with the usual caveats about more complex cases costing more to treat. We found prices ranging from £1,500 all the way up to £5,000 and more.

  • Treatment Time

From six to 18 months, depending on the severity of the misalignment.

  • Materials

Invisalign uses SmartTrack thermoplastic, a proprietary material that is a polyurethane resin. They’re transparent, lightweight, but also effective, robust and comfortable.

  • Treatment Process

You’ll meet a dentist to discuss your treatment and you have initial 3D scans taken. They’ll then create a treatment plan for you before creating your bespoke aligner trays. You’ll see a dentist again to get your aligners, and have attachments fitted to your teeth, if necessary. You’ll have a follow-up appointment a few weeks later, and after that you’ll receive new aligners regularly.

  • Guarantee

Invisalign offers guarantees for manufacturing defects, but a treatment guarantee may well depend on the individual provider. Generally, you will be covered for additional aligners if you’ve followed the treatment plan to the letter and haven’t had the desired results.

  • Any Extras?

Again, this depends on the provider. Some offer nothing, others offer the Boutique Whitening system and free retainers.

*BE AWARE* there is a clause in your contract when you take out Invisalign that states there is a chance you will not get the results you want and Invisalign will not be held responsible. My teeth moved about 90% of the way advertised and wouldn’t really move any more, Invisalign refused to offer any partial refund or compromise. Was left with much better teeth than I started with but for £3500 you expect near perfection, which wasn’t the case.

My front teeth are ruined, had IPR several times and the shape of my front teeth are horrible, no care was taken by my dentist, I'm very unhappy, and the outcome isn't what I expected, wish I had metal braces now. Also my teeth are rough because the glue is still stuck on my teeth after the attachments were taken off. Very very dissatisfied. My treatment is complete now and I should be happy, which I'm not.

Adam Woodall Client

I was quoted £4k for my treatment and right near the end when they so the final shaping and whitening, I was told I needed to pay an additional £1800. The treatment lasted a year and at no point was there any mention of further costs on top of the 4000, in fact I queried if the final adjustments were additional costs and I was told no.

Awful journey from start to finish, my dentist literally contradicts himself constantly, what I was told at the start is completely different now I’m at the end of my journey, I’m now waiting in my retainer which I’ve now been told I have to wear 247 for 6 months then every night for the rest of my life. Wearing at night not an issue but had no idea I had to then wear the one retainer for 6 months, what’s the point in having them whitened at this stage! Went to pick my retainer up to be told they haven’t received it! Now wearing the last of my refinement aligners which don’t fit properly now my attachments have come off!!! Not happy with the finished result at all, tried filling in a form to contact Invisalign direct but keeps coming up with an era message! Complained several times to the manager at the dental practice I go to and got no where!!! Total waste of money/time and stress!!! Would have been better off going down the smile direct route!!!

Our Thoughts

One of the biggest players in clear aligners, Invisalign combines high-quality products with a dentist-led approach for better results. It’s widely available, and generally successful, but our panel did feel this came at a high price. It’s also not the best option for you if you’d rather not have multiple dentist visits – something like NewSmile may be better for at-home treatment. However, the dentist-led approach does offer a safer path to results for more complex cases.
